Black Devil Snail 5-6cm The Black Devil snail is a large snail and the only species in the faunus family. Somewhat similar in appearance to rabbit snails, they are not in fact related at all and cannot interbreed. These snails will happily live in all kinds of conditions from fresh water to even marine, but hard, alkaline water is preferred to help them get the calcium they need for healthy shell growth. Though they will eat algae, they should not be expected to clean the glass in the aquarium as their shells are very heavy. They will stay predominantly on the substrate instead, helping to clean up uneaten fish and shrimp food. Additional sources of calcium can be offered to help keep their shells healthy. They will eat plants if they are hungry enough, but it’s not a preference, so make sure that they are well fed if they are to be kept in a planted tank.
